We’ve begun to clear the LAST two acres at the Hilltop’s pond forest regeneration site. We started this major project back in 2018, when we realized the five acres of brush near Prisoner’s Pond was actually 99% infested with bush honeysuckle that had invaded an abandoned pasture. Scout troops, civic groups and lots of volunteers have contributed hundreds of hours of labor to cut and clear large honeysuckles and dead trees in three of the five total acres, then planted and mulch almost 300 native trees.
Our plan is continue cutting and clearing throughout spring, summer and fall 2024, with the goal of planting over 100 trees in spring 2025. To read more background on this project, including before, during and after shots, go to our dedicated restoration site page. Let us know if you’d like to help!
